Updated Filofax tabs.

A month or so ago, I posted about using my Motex embosser to label my divider tabs. All good in theory, but not great in practise! I should have used some sort of clear tape to cover the labels I think, because pretty soon they were sliding about and disappearing. You may have noticed in a couple of my ‘My Week‘ posts…

I decided that it was about time I got it sorted. I still had my ‘finance’ tab on show, and the information behind that tab was actually blog-related! To sort it out, I binned my beloved martha stewart sticky tabs (i need to find more!) and made new tabs out of card and washi tape. It was really easy – all I did was cut five tab shapes from the card, wrap them in washi and then glue/tape to the dividers that I already had. Then I just used a black pen to write on the labels. It looks so much neater now!

They’re not quite in line; I thought I’d stuck them on equally spaced, but photo evidence shows differently. Nevertheless, they’re working for me right now!

My Week #19

Busy, busy! My exam went okay – not brilliant, not dreadful. Bit nervous to get the results. I still have two assignments due in this coming week, and then I get to go home for 5 days. So excited. Sick of being here now!

My Week #15

Had a nice week back at home, then two long days at work… And I’m off to Finland in three days! There will be a post up about that on Tuesday!

My Week #4

What happened this week? Well, I have to say… not much! I visited Talkin Tarn on the Monday which was nice, but nothing too exciting. I only got a glimpse of a squirrel and saw the usual birds!

OH – I did have an eye test, and discovered that my eyes have in fact gotten worse over the past two years. I pick up my new glasses next Thursday! Gone for a pair similar to the ones that I have, and a pair which are slightly different!

I did actually start up a travel journal for my upcoming expedition. I’m using the idea of ‘smash’ and using it to make my own. There will be a post up next week about that! I filmed a short timelapse of me starting it up.

A quiet week otherwise…

My 2014 set up – so far!

Well, I finally got some nice paper, bought some white card and printed out my diary pages/dividers. I made my dividers yesterday, but when I finished I had run out of natural light in which to take photos in! Not a fan of using indoor lighting at night, as it doesn’t give very pleasing images… Anyway, here’s my set-up so far!

Warning, this is a very picture heavy post!
I would also like to add one thing. I have noticed that a few of my images are on pinterest. Now the ones I have seen all link to my blog, so thank you for that. Please do not pin any image of mine, without linking back to the page and my blog.

personal holborn filofax brown

Here is what I see when I open my Holborn. Quite simple – I kept the divider that I was previously using in the front. I don’t have many cards in the pockets yet, just a WHSmith giftcard, university student finance numbers and my RSPB membership cards. Also have two 10% off vouchers for The Works and some stickies. My tabs are also quite simple and I do have room for one more (if needed). I didn’t have this many tabs in my last set-up, but I think this is going to work quite well. My Filofax feels a little more ‘stuffed’ now and it just feels better than before!

First up is the notes tab. Here I just have lined paper for random notes, nothing special! On the left is a plastic wallet which I taped a photo onto. That will just hold bits and bobs like tickets.

Next up is my monthly pages. Now in my last set-up I didn’t really use month pages. This time I am going to try to use them regularly. I can jot down any deadlines, birthdays, plans and see them at a glance.

I should add that I bought printables from DIYFish and these are what I’m using for my monthly and weekly diaries! Here’s the current month!

My weekly diary pages! Haven’t taken a photo of my week because you can see the layout in my previous ‘My Week’ post, and I will also be posting it at the end of the week!

Lists comes next, and this is where I will just make lists… I like having lists!

The first thing in my lists section is my resolutions insert.

I’ve kept the list pages that I designed some time last year.

This year I decided that I was going to track everything that I buy. This way I can see what I’m wasting spending my money on. I made a simple insert for this. I seem to have spent a lot in a few days, but I did have to buy printer ink!

At the back I just have some plastic wallets which hold a few stickers, tapes, library cards and photos. The piece of paper in the back (which was annoying me when I realised that it was there after taking the photos!) is just my timesheet for work.

So, there it is! I am hoping to keep this set-up for a while. I finally feel like I’ve got something that works well for me. How are you all getting on with your diaries?

Lovely leather!

imageAfter getting my last pay check, I decided to treat myself for Christmas! I arrived home on Christmas Eve and opened the package then. It still isn’t completely set up – I need to buy some nice paper for my inserts! I do have my set-up planned out though!

The Holborn is made from soft Buffalo leather and it feels amazing. It is so soft and the brown is lovely. The Filofax just lies flat upon opening up, and it is flexible without being too soft. It holds it’s shape well, and is easy to write in! I really like the contrast stitching, and even the sectioned off bit on the left! (What is the name for that?!) I’m sure I didn’t like this when I first looked through all the Filofaxes, but seeing it in person changed that!

My main reason for buying the Holborn was the pockets. Having been in the Original for a while, I realised that more pockets would be helpful – I was using wallets and I didn’t like it! When I first spotted it in a shop, I was amazed at how nice the leather felt, but I also loved the inside layout! There are plenty of business card sized slots, and also four full length pockets (two in the front, two in the back) and also a zipped pocket! The zip in the Holborn is a lot easier to use than the one in my Finsbury!

I will do a post soon with my set-up. It is changing from what I used in my Original, as I have decided on a few things that I need to track!

My Insert Layouts of 2013…

Well, if you have been following me for over a year, you will have seen that I tried a lot of different inserts this year…

Now I discovered that a week on one page layout did not give me enough room. I got sick of the notes page, and wanted everything together on my days. I also did not have enough room with the organised mum inserts.

So I decided to start printing inserts out. I started with these from DIYfish, but only used them for a week before deciding to design my own. I really liked the grid layout so started with that as a base.

So here is my own design, and the one that I’ve used most recently. I’m still using it.

I also thought I would try a vertical (?) layout? I’m not sure how this one could be classed. Anyway, I used it for a few weeks and decided I didn’t like it. Back to my original design.

Now my plan for 2014 was to find a nice diary and then transfer those pages into my filofax… I’m still up for doing that, if I manage to find something! I’m also wondering about trying to design some new ones though. I don’t want to be changing so much next year! One thing I have realised from this year though is that I like space, and the normal looking diary layout is one that I’ll stick with!

So, I still haven’t found the perfect layout, but I’m hoping that my next one will be it!

My Week #50

Well this week has been quite busy… as usual 😉 I’ve finished my Literature Review (deadline next Friday!) and I’m starting my storyboard assignment (deadline early January!) Also went on a residential trip with uni. Managed to get a nice night sky timelapse! It was quite cloudy, but looks pretty cool anyway… Sadly not many stars!

Here’s a crappy video of me scrolling through the photos on my camera xD

And this week…

Also, I have decided that I’m not going to bother making my own inserts for 2014. I’m on a mission to find a pretty diary that I can take apart to use in my filofax… and I just bought myself a personal Holborn for Christmas! I figured I deserved it after working so much :3

Trying something new.

So you may have noticed that on every week I have a strip of orange washi tape on every weekend… I started to keep that colour for my work shifts. It looks pretty, and it means I can see at a glance when I’m working!

I decided to try it for my lectures, and ordered a green patterned washi for that purpose… Now the writing looks unreadable on the image, but I can read it! I chose green because that’s the colour code that I had for university anyway.

…and this is a little sneak peak of my new weekly insert in action! I’m not sure how I feel about it yet.

(Oh and I haven’t seen Catching Fire yet! We’re going next Wednesday…)
